Giuseppe Gandolfi finished his legal studies in Milan, where he began working as a lawyer in 1954. He started teaching in 1958, first as a junior lecturer and then as a professor at the university of Milan. Since 1967 he has been teaching in Camerino, Triest and Pavia. In 1974 Gandolfi was appointed full professor (Ordinarius) for Comparative Private Law at the University of Padua. He founded the Academy of European Private Lawyers and received the doctorate honoris causa from the Universities of Lausanne and Cáceres (Estremadura, Spain), Bochum and from the Catholic University of Uruguay.
