PD Dr. Christoph U. Schmid

PD Dr. Christoph U. Schmid will speak about  Levels, Instruments and Actors of the Current Harmonisation Process, with Particular Emphasis on the Role of the Judiciary.
Christoph Schmid studied law in Passau, Munich, and Geneva and has a degree in Italian and French language and legal translation. He passed his first and second state exams in Bavaria and finished his doctoral thesis in 1995 on The interplay of United Nations Sales Law and domestic law: gap-filling and the concurrence of norms. Christoph Schmid completed postdoctoral studies in European, comparative and competition law at the European University Institute (EUI), Florence; his Ph.D. research project was The Banana saga: Multi-level Constitutionalism and Constitutional Conflicts between International, European and National Trade and Constitutional Law. Afterwards he completed his professorial dissertation, which deals with the Europeanization of Private Law. Christoph Schmid has been granted numerous renowned scholarships to foster his work. He is a member of the International Society of Contract Law (SECOLA) and, since 1 July 2005, he is the Director of the Centre of European Law and Politics at the University of Bremen.
